Frisco Has a Rule Most Cities Do Not, and It Matters Most on Gas
Here is something worth knowing before you hire anybody to work on gas in this city.
Frisco requires a licensed journeyman on site at all times while plumbing work is in progress. Not reachable by phone. Not stopping by at the end. On site, the whole time. A contractor who violates that can have their registration to do business in Frisco revoked.
That rule exists for every trade, but think about where it actually matters. A helper who runs a drain line wrong makes a mess. A helper who threads a gas joint wrong makes something else. Frisco decided that was worth regulating and its neighbors largely have not.
The city backs it up on the front end too. Every contractor working in Frisco must be registered with Building Inspections before a permit is issued. Registration requires an application, a fee, a Texas driver’s license, a trade license verified through the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners, and proof of liability insurance. Registered contractors get an R-Number.
And you can check all of it yourself. Frisco’s eTRAKiT system lets anyone search currently registered contractors authorized to work in the city. Before somebody puts a wrench on your gas system, that is two minutes well spent, on us or on anyone else.

Pool and Spa Heaters
Frisco has a lot of pools, and a pool heater is one of the larger gas appliances a house will ever add.
Frisco adopted the 2024 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code for residential work under Ordinance 2026-01-11, effective March 1, 2026, alongside the 2024 Fuel Gas Code. A heater installation sits at the intersection of both, so the gas supply, the connection, and the equipment location all get looked at.
The thing homeowners underestimate is load rather than the line itself. A pool heater can rival a furnace for demand on its own. Add it to a house that already has a furnace, a water heater, a range, a dryer, and maybe an outdoor kitchen, and the question stops being whether the new run reaches and starts being whether the meter can deliver everything at once. We check that before quoting, not after.
Anything trenched needs 811 called at least two business days ahead so utility-owned lines are located and marked. Texas law, and free.
CSST in Frisco's Newer Homes
If your Frisco house went up after roughly 2000, it very likely has CSST, the flexible yellow corrugated stainless steel gas tubing that replaced rigid black iron in most new construction. It is a good product with one requirement that gets missed constantly: the gas piping system has to be bonded to the electrical grounding system, because a nearby lightning strike can otherwise arc through the thin tubing wall.
Missing or incorrect bonding is the most commonly written-up gas item on North Texas inspection reports. If a report on your house flagged gas piping bonding, that is what it means.
One honest note on scope. The gas piping side is our work. The bonding conductor lands on the electrical grounding system, so depending on what your house needs, part of the correction may belong to a licensed electrician.
