Emergency Plumbing in Duncanville, TX
If water is running and you cannot stop it, do this before you keep reading.
Shut off the water at your house shutoff. It is usually where the supply line comes into the house, often near a front hose bib or in the garage. For one fixture, close the stop valve under the sink or behind the toilet. Do not go to the valve in the meter box by the street: the City of Duncanville says only its water personnel may operate the valve on a meter.
If you smell gas, leave the building first with everyone in it, including pets. Do not flip switches or use your phone inside. Once you are outside and away, call 911. Then call Atmos Energy at 866-322-8667. Atmos is the gas utility for Duncanville and will make the line safe. Call us at 214-918-6109 for the repair once the area has been cleared.
If sewage is coming up in a tub, sink, toilet or washer, read the next section first. In Duncanville, the first call on a backup goes to the city.
For everything else, call 214-918-6109.

Duncanville Houses Mostly Date From 1960 to 1989, and It Shows in the Pipes
Drains
Houses from the 1960s and 1970s were built with cast iron drain lines under the slab. At fifty years old, cast iron scales inside and cracks, and the emergency is a main line backup that usually gave weeks of slow drains as warning.
Supply lines
Copper under the slab is now forty to sixty years old, the age when pinhole and slab leaks start. Some homes from the late 1970s and 1980s were plumbed with gray polybutylene, which tends to fail at a fitting with no warning.
The line between the meter and the house
In its 2024 service line survey, the city said some homes have service lines after the meter that it cannot categorize, because owners changed them over the years or there are no records, and it is continuing to check homes built before 1988. That stretch, on the house side of the meter, is where owners made those changes. A break there shows up as low pressure and a wet patch in the yard with no reason to be there.
The ground
USDA soil survey maps central Duncanville as Dalco clay, a Vertisol that swells when it rains and shrinks and cracks in a dry summer. That movement is behind most of the slab leaks we find. A leak you can hear running with every fixture off is soaking the ground under your foundation.
In Duncanville, a Sewage Backup Starts With a Call to the City
Make that call first, and stop running water everywhere in the house while you wait. City crews maintain the sanitary sewer mains, so if the main in the street is blocked, the fix is theirs and no plumber can do it for you.
If the city finds its main flowing, the blockage is almost always in the line between your house and the main, and that is a plumber’s job. Call us. Once the line is clear, a sewer camera inspection at 150 to 400 dollars shows what caused it: roots, a sag, a broken joint, or grease.
The same after-hours number, 972-780-4959, is the one to use for water coming up in the street, a leak at the meter box, or a main break.
Who Can Turn the Water Off at the Meter
The city is plain about this: only its water personnel may operate the valve on a meter. If you need the water off at the meter for a repair, call Utility Customer Service during business hours at 972-780-5010 and ask for someone to come out. After 5 PM, the city’s FAQ says to call 972-780-4959.
That makes your own house shutoff the valve that matters in an emergency. Find it now, while nothing is leaking, and make sure it turns. On a Duncanville house of 1970s or 1980s age, that valve may never have been touched.
If it is seized or buried, we can replace it on a regular visit so it works the night you need it.
Meet James Armstrong
Meet the Master Plumber Serving Duncanville: James Armstrong
James Armstrong has been a Mesquite-resident Master Plumber since 1995. What began as helping neighbors fix leaky faucets turned into a career — and eventually a family business, built on one simple rule: treat people right, do the job with integrity, and always stand behind your work. Today, James and his crew serve Duncanville, Sachse, Garland, and the broader DFW metro from the Mesquite headquarters at 844 Dalworth Dr.
“In thirty years of plumbing across the DFW metro, including Duncanville, the drain calls almost always come down to two things: tree roots in the older neighborhoods, and grease and hair buildup in the newer developments. We camera-inspect first, then choose hydro-jetting or snaking based on what we actually see — not on what gets you to the highest invoice.”

What Counts as an Emergency, and What Can Wait
In Duncanville, some emergencies are ours, some are the city’s first, and some can wait until morning. Here is the honest split.
| Call us now | Call the city first | Usually waits |
|---|---|---|
| A burst or spraying pipe. Shut off the water at your house shutoff first | Sewage coming up in a tub, sink, toilet or washer: 972-780-5000 from 7 AM to 4 PM, 972-780-4959 from 4 PM to 7 AM | One clogged toilet when another works |
| Sewage still coming up after the city says its main is flowing | Water coming up in the street, or a leak at the meter box | A water heater that stopped heating but is not leaking |
| A water heater leaking from the tank body | No water on the whole street | A slow drain |
| No water in your house when the neighbors have it | Water that has to be shut off at the meter. Only city water personnel may operate that valve | A dripping faucet |
| A slab leak you can hear running with every fixture off | A main break: 972-780-4959, the city after-hours water emergency line | A running toilet |
A gas smell is not a plumbing call first: leave, call 911 from outside, then Atmos Energy, then us. After hours there is a flat 199 dollar dispatch fee, and we tell you that number on the phone first. If it can wait, we will say so and book you for regular hours at regular rates.

Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions? We’ve got answers. Can’t find what you’re looking for? Give us a call anytime.
The City of Duncanville asks you to call it first: 972-780-5000 from 7 AM to 4 PM, or 972-780-4959 from 4 PM to 7 AM. If the city's main is flowing, the blockage is in your line, and that is a plumber's job. Call us at 214-918-6109, and a camera inspection at 150 to 400 dollars shows the cause once the line is cleared.
No. The City of Duncanville says only its water personnel may operate the valve on a meter. Use your house shutoff, usually where the supply line enters the house. To have the meter shut off for a repair, call Utility Customer Service at 972-780-5010 in business hours, or 972-780-4959 after 5 PM.
Yes. We come out for genuine emergencies outside normal hours, and an after-hours call carries a flat 199 dollar dispatch fee, stated on the phone before we come out. For same-day service at regular rates, call before noon on a weekday.
We are based in Mesquite, about 35 minutes from Duncanville before traffic. Plumbers closer to you can usually get there sooner. If water is still running and you cannot stop it, call whoever can reach you first. If the water is off and you need the problem found and fixed properly, call us.
About 79 percent of Duncanville's homes were built between 1960 and 1989, according to the Census Bureau, so whole streets share the same pipe materials and the same age. Cast iron drains, copper under the slab and 1980s polybutylene all reach the end of their life at about the same time.
Leave the building immediately with everyone and every pet. Do not touch light switches, appliances or any phone inside, and do not open or close any gas valve. From a safe distance outside, call 911, then call Atmos Energy at 866-322-8667, the gas utility for Duncanville. Call a plumber only after Atmos or the fire department says it is safe.
