Emergency Plumbing in Fort Worth, TX
If water is running and you cannot stop it, do this before you keep reading.
Shut off the water. Most homes have a main shutoff where the supply line enters the house, often in the garage or on an exterior wall facing the street. For one fixture, the stop valve is under the sink or behind the toilet.
If you smell gas, leave the building first with everyone in it, including pets. Do not flip switches or use your phone inside. Once you are outside and away, call 911. Then call Atmos Energy at 866-322-8667. Atmos is the gas utility for most of Fort Worth and will make the line safe. CoServ Gas serves a small part of north Fort Worth; if your gas bill says CoServ, call its gas emergency line at 844-330-0763 instead. Call us at 214-918-6109 for the repair once the area has been cleared.
If sewage is coming up in a drain, read the section on which emergencies belong to the city before you call anyone. Fort Worth gives you a simple test.

What to Do While You Wait
An hour is a long time with water on the floor. Here is what limits the damage, in order.
Stop the water
Main shutoff for a burst line, fixture stop for one leak, the cold water valve at the top of the tank for a leaking water heater.
Kill the power where water is
If water is near outlets, a ceiling light or an electric water heater, turn off that breaker. If you cannot reach the panel without standing in water, do not.
Open the faucets
Once the main is closed, open a tap at the lowest point in the house to drain what is left in the lines.
Stop using drains if sewage is coming up
No toilets, sinks, washer or dishwasher. Every gallon you send down comes back up.
Photograph everything before you clean
Your insurance carrier will ask.
Move what you can
Rugs, electronics and anything cardboard, out of the water and away from the ceiling below a leak.
We Are About an Hour Away. If Water Is Still Running, Call Someone Closer.
Our shop is at 844 Dalworth Dr in Mesquite, about 58 minutes from Fort Worth before traffic, and longer across town at rush hour. There are good plumbers with shops in Fort Worth who can reach you much faster. If water is coming through a ceiling right now and you cannot shut it off, call whoever can get there first. We would rather lose the call than have you wait an hour.
Where we earn a Fort Worth emergency call is after the water is off and the damage has stopped, when what you need is the right diagnosis rather than the nearest truck: a sewer line that keeps backing up, a slab leak, a gas line, or a problem somebody else already fixed twice.
Call before noon on a weekday and we can usually be there the same day at regular rates. After hours there is a flat 199 dollar dispatch fee, and we tell you that number on the phone before anyone gets in a truck. We will give you an honest arrival time before you book.
Which Fort Worth Emergencies Belong to the City
Fort Worth Water uses one number for problems with service, 817-392-4477, and the city says the same number is used at any hour. For an emergency, meaning a water main break or a sewer backup, the city says to select option 1. You can also report through the city’s MyFW app.
The city asks people not to report emergencies by email, because the inbox is not watched constantly.
Meet James Armstrong
Meet the Master Plumber Serving Fort Worth: James Armstrong
James Armstrong has been a Mesquite-resident Master Plumber since 1995. What began as helping neighbors fix leaky faucets turned into a career — and eventually a family business, built on one simple rule: treat people right, do the job with integrity, and always stand behind your work. Today, James and his crew serve Fort Worth, Sachse, Garland, and the broader DFW metro from the Mesquite headquarters at 844 Dalworth Dr.
“In thirty years of plumbing across the DFW metro, including Fort Worth, the drain calls almost always come down to two things: tree roots in the older neighborhoods, and grease and hair buildup in the newer developments. We camera-inspect first, then choose hydro-jetting or snaking based on what we actually see — not on what gets you to the highest invoice.”

What Counts as an Emergency, and What Can Wait
Fort Worth Water uses one number, 817-392-4477, at any hour. For a main break or a sewer backup, select option 1. Here is how to tell whether a problem is the city’s or yours before you pay anyone.
| What you see | Likely the city’s: call 817-392-4477 | Likely yours: call a plumber |
|---|---|---|
| Sewage coming up in a drain | It keeps coming up while nothing in the house is using water. There may be a problem in the city main | It stops once you turn off every faucet, toilet and appliance. The problem is most likely in your private sewer lateral |
| Slow drains | The neighbors are slow too. The city says its crews will check the mains and tell you whether the problem is theirs | The city finds nothing in the main. Your line needs cleaning, and a camera inspection at 150 to 400 dollars shows the cause |
| Who owns the sewer pipe | The sewer mains and outfalls in the right-of-way and easements | The service line from your house out to the main |
| Water coming out of the ground | In the street, at any flow rate. The city wants to know and decides whether it is a break or a leak. Do not drive, walk or cycle through it | A wet patch in your yard between the meter and the house, usually with low pressure inside |
| No water | The whole street is out. A typical main repair takes about six hours | Only your house is out while the neighbors have water |
| How to report it | 817-392-4477 (option 1 for a main break or sewer backup) or the MyFW app. Not by email | Shut off the water first. We are about an hour away, so if water is still running, call someone closer |
A flat 199 dollar dispatch fee applies after hours, stated on the phone before we come out. Call before noon on a weekday for same-day service at regular rates: 214-918-6109.

Yes, for genuine emergencies, with a flat 199 dollar dispatch fee after hours that we state on the phone before we come out. We are about an hour from Fort Worth, so if water is still running, call someone closer first. For same-day service at regular rates, call before noon on a weekday.
Our shop is in Mesquite, about 58 minutes from Fort Worth before traffic. Plumbers based in Fort Worth can usually get there sooner. If you cannot stop the water, call whoever can reach you first. If the water is off and you need the problem found and fixed properly, call us.
Fort Worth Water's test: turn off everything using water. If the overflow stops, the problem is most likely in your private sewer lateral and you need a plumber. If sewage keeps coming up with nothing running, call the city at 817-392-4477 and select option 1. A camera inspection at 150 to 400 dollars shows the cause once your line is cleared.
Fort Worth Water, at 817-392-4477 (select option 1 for emergencies), or the MyFW app. The city says the same number is used at any hour and it wants to hear about water coming out of the ground at any flow rate. Do not report it by email. A leak between the meter and your house is yours to repair.
Shut off the water at the main before things thaw. Ice splits the pipe while everything is frozen, and the flood comes when the ice plug melts and the water reaches the split all at once. If you lost pressure during a freeze, treat that as the warning and close the main.
Leave the building with everyone in it, touch no switches, appliances or phones inside, and do not touch any gas valve. From a safe distance, call 911, then Atmos Energy at 866-322-8667. If your gas bill says CoServ Gas, call 844-330-0763 instead. Call a plumber only once the utility says it is safe.
