Terrell Treats Its Own Wastewater, and Its City Handles a Real Problem You Can Contribute To

Unlike some of the newer cities we work in, Terrell runs its own wastewater system rather than sending everything to a regional plant.

The city maintains more than 650,000 feet of sewer pipe and treats it locally at its own Kings Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant. That means a blockage on the city’s side and a blockage on your side are handled by different systems, but the same rule applies to both: what gets flushed matters.

The City of Terrell publishes its own guidance on this, and it lines up with what we see on service calls. Wet wipes, including ones labeled flushable, baby wipes, paper towels, and tissue paper all take far longer to break down than toilet paper and are a documented cause of blockages in Terrell’s sewer system.

The same is true inside your own line. If a clog keeps coming back in the same spot, wipes or paper towels caught on a rough patch of older pipe are a common reason, not just tree roots or age alone.

Terrell’s older housing stock adds its own factor. In a city incorporated in 1874, older clay or cast iron sewer lines are more common than in newer subdivisions, and that older pipe gives debris more surface to catch on.

Camera inspection tells us whether a repeat clog is a flushing habit, an aging pipe, or both.

Meet James Armstrong

Meet the Master Plumber Serving Terrell: James Armstrong

James Armstrong has been a Mesquite-resident Master Plumber since 1995. What began as helping neighbors fix leaky faucets turned into a career — and eventually a family business, built on one simple rule: treat people right, do the job with integrity, and always stand behind your work. Today, James and his crew serve Terrell, Sachse, Garland, and the broader east DFW metro, with most calls dispatched and on-site within 25 minutes of the Mesquite headquarters at 844 Dalworth Dr.

“In thirty years of plumbing across the DFW metro, including Terrell, the drain calls almost always come down to two things: tree roots in the older neighborhoods, and grease and hair buildup in the newer developments. We camera-inspect first, then choose hydro-jetting or snaking based on what we actually see — not on what gets you to the highest invoice.”

Yes. Terrell runs its own wastewater collection and treatment system, more than 650,000 feet of pipe, treated locally at the city's Kings Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant, rather than sending it to a regional facility.

The City of Terrell has published its own guidance on this. Wet wipes, including ones labeled flushable, baby wipes, paper towels, and tissue paper all break down far slower than toilet paper and are a documented cause of blockages in the city's own system. The same items cause problems in a home's private line.

Yes. We do not recommend a repair or replacement without confirming the actual condition of the line first. Cleaning, spot repair, and full replacement are very different costs, and the camera tells us which one you actually need.

Terrell was incorporated in 1874, so older clay and cast iron sewer lines are more common there than in newer subdivisions elsewhere in our service area. Older pipe gives debris more surface to catch on, which can make repeat clogs more likely.

Our shop is about 25 minutes from Terrell. Same-day service is available for calls before noon on weekdays.
