Meet James Armstrong

Meet the Master Plumber Serving DFW: James Armstrong

James Armstrong has been a Mesquite-resident Master Plumber since 1995. What began as helping neighbors fix leaky faucets turned into a career — and eventually a family business, built on one simple rule: treat people right, do the job with integrity, and always stand behind your work. Today, James and his crew serve Mesquite, Rowlett, Sachse, Garland, and the broader east DFW metro, with most calls dispatched and on-site within 25 minutes of the Mesquite headquarters at 844 Dalworth Dr.

“In thirty years working Rowlett, Garland, and the Lake Ray Hubbard side of the metro, the drain calls almost always come down to two things: tree roots in the older Rowlett neighborhoods near the lake, and grease and hair buildup in the newer developments off Liberty Grove and Schrade Road. We camera-inspect first, then choose hydro-jetting or snaking based on what we actually see — not on what gets you to the highest invoice.”

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions? We’ve got answers. Can’t find what you’re looking for? Give us a call anytime.

Our friendly team is available 24/7 to help you.

Our diagnostic is $79. A leaking pipe repair runs $200 to $400. Most fixture repairs run $150 to $450. A water heater replacement runs $1,200 to $3,500. A slab leak runs $1,500 to $15,000 depending on access and method. We quote flat rate, in writing, before we start, and the access surcharge is included in that number rather than added later.

No, and we would rather tell you than let you find out. Our shop is at 844 Dalworth Dr in Mesquite, about 25 miles from Plano. Plano is a regular part of our service area but it is not our home turf. A Plano-based shop will beat us on drive time. Where we earn the call is on the jobs where the diagnosis matters more than the drive.

Yes. A flat $199 emergency dispatch fee outside our hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. We quote it before we come out. If the problem can wait until Monday, we will tell you so and save you the money.

Yes. Texas Master Plumber License M-39428, with a gas endorsement. A Master Plumber is the top license level in Texas and the person legally responsible for the work. You can verify that number with the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners, and you should verify it for any plumber you hire, including us.

Expansive clay soil. It swells when it rains and shrinks when it does not, and it moves your foundation and everything buried under it. Plano homes built before the 2000s are especially prone. Warm spot on the floor, a spike in the water bill, or the sound of running water when everything is off are the signs. We locate with acoustic and thermal equipment before anybody breaks concrete.

You should at least go look at it. Most Plano homes from the 1980s forward put the water heater in the attic, and a 50-gallon tank that fails up there sends fifty gallons through your ceiling. Check that there is a drain pan, check that the pan actually drains somewhere, and put a $15 battery water alarm in the pan. If the unit is over eight years old and it is in the attic, replacing it on your schedule is a lot cheaper than replacing it plus a ceiling.

If you call before noon on a weekday, usually yes. We are not a 24-hour company. After-hours calls carry the flat $199 dispatch fee.

A running toilet is a $15 flapper and ten minutes. A slow bathroom sink is usually hair in the trap. A jammed disposal has a hex slot on the bottom. Low pressure at one faucet is usually the aerator, and cleaning it is free. What you should not touch is gas, water heaters, anything inside a wall, or anything that needs a permit.

Yes. That is the whole point. If a $30 cartridge will fix your faucet, we will tell you to buy the cartridge. If a flush will quiet your water heater, we will flush it instead of selling you a new one. We would rather have you as a customer in 2035.

Always. Water heaters, repiping, gas work, sewer work, and moving fixtures all require permits in Plano. If a contractor offers to skip the permit to save you money, understand what he is offering: the inspection is an independent check on his work at no cost to you, and he wants to remove it and hand you the risk.

Yes. Restaurants, offices, clinics, retail, and multi-unit residential. Flushometers, grease lines, commercial water heaters, and backflow devices are standard work.

Leave the building immediately. Do not flip a switch, do not unplug anything, do not use your phone inside. From a safe distance, call 911 and Atmos Energy at 866-322-8667. Atmos will shut it off at no charge. Call us afterward for the repair, once the gas is secured.

Our friendly team is available 24/7 to help you.

If water is running and you cannot stop it: find the shutoff. Local valve behind the fixture, or the main in the garage or at the meter box by the street. Turn it clockwise. Then open the lowest faucet in the house to drain the pressure out of the lines.

Go find your main shutoff today, while nothing is wrong. Tag it. Make sure everybody in the house knows where it is and which way it turns. Five minutes, and it is worth more than anything else on this page.
